There is a Joan Didion quote which refers to California as a place in which "the mind is troubled by some buried and ineradicable suspicion that things work out better here, because here, beneath the immense bleached sky, is where we run out of continent." As a fourth generation California native, my desire to in some way capture and make sense of my extreme and ever-changing surroundings has been a constant. Life and travel abroad have deepened my appreciation for the evocative nature of light and the varied textures of the sensual world. My background and ongoing interest in language, performance, music and dance continue to shape and refine my sensibility while informing my relationship to the materials I paint with.
