My paintings are an indirect response to the places I have walked and wandered in intimate dialog with the elemental forces of nature. Without specific reference to an outer landscape or memory, priority is given to pure emotional resonance: color, texture, the immediacy of line, specific qualities, characteristics and behaviors of the materials I paint with - tangible elements that anchor, guide and also limit the process. Through adventurous experimentation in an unpredictable inner terrain, senses are heightened and instinct is awakened. Memories, dreams and impressions come and go. Intuition takes over where language and thinking fall short while alternate ways of seeing and expressing are suggested. With each painting, a small glimpse into what it is to be human reflects itself back to me.
